What is a Soft Reset in GoPOS and how do I perform this function?

2 min. readlast update: 11.12.2025

What it does is it clears the memory buffers of the internal memory of the APOS unit. However, if this is performed during a transaction, the transaction itself will be lost.

Soft reset should only be performed if you're experiencing performance issues, such as slow response times while in the GoPOS software, or in cases where the APOS system freezes or crashes.

To perform the Soft Reset, ensure you're logged in as a user with programming privileges enabled.

Next, from Register Mode, tap on the Home button. Then from the Home Screen, tap on Menu > Settings > Soft Reset.

A window will pop up with five options and a warning prompt. With each selection, they will come with a specific warning about those functions.

  • Transaction Data: Clears all data buffers and any currently opened transaction.

  • Balance Locks: Unlocks any previously closed balances that are affecting balance operations with opening a new account or table.

  • IRC Buffers: Clears any residual balances in all connected APOS terminals in their respective buffers that has been closed on one of the APOS terminals on the network, but still showing a $0.00 balance on another APOS terminal that could not be cleared locally.

  • Balance Data: Clears all table/account balance data in the network on all APOS terminals in the network.

  • All Terminal Data: Clears transaction records, reporting data, open balances, as well as reset all counters back to zero.*

*NOTE: This option simplifies the steps of performing a "quick" Program Backup and Program Restore. However, this does NOT replace the idea of performing a Program Backup.
